Production has finally been scheduled to kick off on the survival-thriller film, ‘Girl Who Fell from the Sky,’ which has been under development for years. A lot has changed since the film was first announced back in 2017, with Sophie Turner in the lead role. Joey King has taken over the lead role, playing 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke.

‘Girl Who Fell from the Sky’ is currently set to begin filming on May 11, 2026, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, and will wrap on June 02, 2026. Steven A. Adelson has been confirmed to direct the film from a screenplay written by S.J. Inwards. Adelson is a well-known director whose directing credits include Shows like FUBAR, Devil in Ohio, SkyMed, Debris, Siren, Motherland: Fort Salem, Beyond, Dynasty, 12 Monkeys, Sleepy Hollow, Limitless, The Blacklist, and many more.

Joey King is the only announced actor for this film. She is best known for The Kissing Booth trilogy on Netflix. Her acting career includes films like Bullet Train, Oz the Great and Powerful, White House Down, The Princess, Uglies, The In Between, A Family Affair, and more.

The film follows high school senior Juliane Koepcke, the sole survivor of the December 24, 1971, crash of LANSA Flight 508 in the Peruvian rainforest. The 17-year-old was aboard a Christmas Eve flight with her mother, heading to join her father for the holidays, when the Lockheed L-188A Electra, en route from Lima to Pucallpa, flew into a violent thunderstorm and was struck by lightning. The plane was consumed by fire; Koepcke was ejected, still strapped to her seat, and fell nearly two miles (10,000 feet) before the thick canopy of the Amazon rainforest broke her fall and miraculously saved her life. She then endured an 11-day ordeal, battling through the treacherous jungle until she was finally rescued.

There is already a feature film and a documentary made on this story. "Miracles Still Happen" (I miracoli accadono ancora, 1974) is an Italian-German production directed by Giuseppe M. Scotese, starring Susan Penhaligon as Juliane. It follows her fall, jungle survival, and rescue fairly closely to the true events (though with some dramatization typical of 1970s "true story" films). "Wings of Hope" (Julianes Sturz in den Dschungel, 1998) is a documentary directed by Werner Herzog. Herzog (who was nearly on the same flight) travels with the real Juliane Koepcke back to the crash site and retraces her journey. It's widely praised as the most authentic account.

Steven A. Adelson directs the film from a screenplay written by S.J. Inwards. Mary Aloe, Jamie King, Joey King, Stanley M. Brooks, Gia Ghadimian, and  Ernie Barbarash are the executive producers. All the King's Horses, Aloe Entertainment, and Stan & Deliver Films are the companies behind the production. ‘Girl Who Fell from the Sky’ will be released on Netflix worldwide.
