TV Shows Reviews

For those of you who love watching mystery and murder plots, Silent Truth is just the right watch for you. Coming straight to the plot, it has been decades since a secret was buried under a cherry blossom tree by four friends in their elementary school yard.  Jumping into the picture is a seasoned detective named Junichi Tobina (played by Ryoma Takeuchi) who is called back to his hometown in order to investigate a murder. Soon, during his course of investigation, he finds out that the murder was done by the same weapon he and his friends had buried years ago under the cherry blossom tree! What a twist in the fate of the former classmates. But now the question is: who has committed the murder? This has freshened up all the old wounds and memories that he has been carrying for the last 23 years. And to his utmost surprise, the prime suspect of the murder is none other than his former lover, Makiko Iwamoto (played by Mao Inoue). That is what has gotten him so disputatious about everything. Could she really be the murderer, or is this all a big misunderstanding?

From the first reading, you can make out how gripping the drama is going to be. The plot is sensational, involving murder, a weapon, and a former lover. These are the key ingredients that make any murder drama very gripping. What adds more to all this is the 23-year-old's past connection to the elementary school. Who would have thought of the possible outcome of events? So when it comes to the storyline, I assure you the first episode looks promising. It doesn’t drag much and gives us enough to keep us waiting for the next ones.

The pacing is one of the biggest strengths of the show. The episode moves at a fast pace but also halts in between to give us some time to understand the various twists and turns the makers have come up with. The themes explored contribute to the eerie vibe the show conveys. Guilt and memories are core to this show, and very aptly, they are distributed throughout the plot.

When it comes to acting, the cast has outdone itself. Ryoma Takeuchi gives us what we want- a dim and serious detective who is in confusion when he confronts his former lover over a suspected murder case. The confusion is very much visible in his eyes, and that creates a major shift in the overall energy of the show. Even the supporting cast does a great job. Hence, it would be a good wait to see them in the upcoming episodes as and when they are realized.

Other than that, I can already see the character development happening, and by the end of it, we will get to see the many layers each character comes along with it. The first episode itself has gotten us hooked; it would be fun to watch the upcoming ones.

Final Score- [8/10]
