K-drama lovers, gear up because we have another cute story to watch. And if you have loved the “enemies to lovers” theme, then Sold Out On You is a great watch for you. The plot revolves around Matthew Lee, a simple mushroom farmer whose business is in great jeopardy. On the other hand, we have Dam Ye-jin, a motivated, high-performing home shopping host who is battling insomnia and professional burnout. They meet each other when Dam Ye-jin heads to the countryside for a deal that can actually save her career. This leads to a series of comedy with errors and more often chaotic interactions between the two leads. There is a sharp contrast in their personalities, their work, and the pace at which they lead their lives. Most of the time, it is this contrast that causes friction between them. The question is, will they ever fall in love?
So while the plot of Sold Out On You is a bit predictable, the makers have ensured a great execution. Sometimes it might remind one of some classics, such as Home Town Cha Cha and similar ones, due to the theme followed. Yet even in that, it manages to be cute and fun to watch for anyone looking for a breather in the mid-week.
However, it is this predictability that can go against the viewers. Many people might already guess the ending, due to which they may even end up losing interest in watching Sold Out On You. Because let's be honest, there is no dearth of plot revolving around enemies-to-lovers. But if you are ready to ignore that, the show is worth watching.
Another drawback is that there are some supporting characters whose potential hasn’t been realized well in the show. For example, we get to see the charming Kim Bum. But his role hardly manages to leave an impact. Also, he is shown for a very small amount of screen time. I do understand that he isn’t the lead in Sold Out On You, yet whatever role he has doesn’t add up significantly to the whole plot. That is one area I feel things could have been better.
The pacing is fine, thankfully, which ends up supporting the overall comedy era of the show that we are shown. A fast-paced show is always better than a slow one. And this is one area where the makers didn’t compromise.
When it comes to acting, the actors have done a great job. For example, Ahn Hyo-seop as Mathew Lee is very convincing in his role. He brings the right amount of emotions and comedy that is required from his character. At the same time, Chae Won-bin as Dam Ye-jin is equally good as an employee who is facing burnout. Even the supporting cast has done a good job with their roles. I also feel that whatever flaws Sold Out On You has, they can be ignored easily because we do have new characters in this. Although, as of now, only the first episode has come out, it will be interesting to see what the upcoming ones hold for us.
Final Score- [7/10]
