TV Shows Reviews

Spy thriller fans, assemble here right away, because Netflix has come up with a new German series that is good enough to be watched. The plot is about Simon and Meret, who are former intelligence operatives. They are trying to build a normal life after spending years quietly away from public life. As we all know, these things are an illusion for those involved in jobs such as the secret services. Years later, old enemies and unfinished business resurface. They must battle these things in order to survive and maintain a peaceful life quietly. The question is, will they survive? Who will they trust, and what are the unfinished businesses they have?

While the plot is predictable and hardly offers anything in the name of “new”, the execution is what makes it worth watching. The predictable plot elements include retired agents and business that need to be taken care of. Now, let’s be honest, we have seen this many times before. However, the makers ensured that we weren’t bored so easily. There are twists and turns that are enough to keep you wanting more. You will see and realize how dangerous life can be for people in this profession. The pacing is fast, and with just six episodes, you won’t even come to know when the series ended. This is a big benefit for the series because with such a predictable plot, there were chances that people might get bored. But with the right strategic implementation, things are safe and on track for us to have one of the most memorable viewing experiences of spy thrillers.

Another thing I liked was the background used, which is the city of Berlin. It gives an eerie vibe of something ominous that is going to happen. The action sequences just end up complementing the backdrop and make it a stunning scene to witness on screen.  And I must say, the city is indeed visually pleasant, and on a screen, it becomes even better to watch. The makers captured it so beautifully that even in a plot like this, the city has its own sweet charm for us to see.

There are very few subplots. This means that the show hardly overmixes and never ends up confusing the audience. This also makes it easy for us to keep track of the plot and understand what exactly is happening when and where. Hence, retaining the plot becomes an easy task for us.

The performance of the entire crew is amazing. It is powerful. They display the right amount of emotions as and when needed, making the series a great watch. The thrill their acting adds up is unbeatable.

Again, if you aren’t a fan of the soy genre, you might find this show boring, predictable, and bloody. Only if you are a fan of such things will this show make any sense to you. So watch only if you fall in the category of people who enjoy such shows and movies.

Final Score- [8/10]
