This might be the episode that completely shifts the series' direction. Two moments in particular have left me genuinely confused and unable to predict where the story is heading.  Henry isn’t just having visions anymore — he appears to be crossing over into an entirely different universe. At the same time, the Man in Yellow finally appears in his original attire and threatens Tabitha with such chilling conviction that every plan and hope she had seems to shatter completely.

Episode 8 opens at Colony House in the aftermath of the horrific night, when Roger — now fully dead — had attacked. His body lies on the floor as Donna and the other residents burn it. Sophia watches the scene unfold and becomes convinced that because of the residents’ innocence and ignorance, they will never find a way out of this place. At the same time, Tabitha and Ethan go to visit Victor. Tabitha initially only wants to politely ask him to stop scaring Ethan. However, Ethan is surprisingly open and ready to hear anything Victor has to say that could help him survive on his own.

I found it both unsettling and strange how Victor starts preparing Ethan to survive on his own. It became especially disturbing when Victor brought out the dolls and asked Ethan to pretend one was his mother, Tabitha, and the other was Julie. Since there was nothing to represent Jim, Victor suggested making a scarecrow instead. Thankfully, Tabitha interrupted the scene because the whole exercise felt like Victor was already treating Ethan’s family as if they were dead. Victor seems genuinely convinced that Ethan will eventually be left alone, and Ethan appears to be accepting it too. When Tabitha reassures them both that she’ll find a way to get them home, Victor quietly replies, “That’s what my mom said too.”

Just when everything seems to have settled and Tabitha returns home, she receives a chilling phone call with Thomas’ voice on the other end, telling her to come near the van. When she arrives at the spot, it turns out to be the Man in Yellow instead. He reveals that he was the one who killed Jim at that exact location.  He then lauds both Tabitha and Jade for making it this far for the first time and for discovering the bones. He tells her that she may have found the key to finally setting the children free and taking her own kids home or that she’s about to unleash a kind of suffering she can’t even begin to imagine.

Meanwhile, Henry’s visions are becoming much more vivid and convincing. He’s starting to genuinely believe that he’s actually lying in a hospital bed, with a suited Victor taking care of him. In these visions, he’s surrounded by his grandson Sebastian and a doctor. Even after waking up, he still feels the lingering atmosphere of that hospital, where Victor explained everything to him. According to Victor, Henry has been in the hospital ever since his mother surprised him on his birthday by giving him drugs. Victor keeps insisting that everything Henry is experiencing in the Town isn’t real. Henry continues having these visions, and each time he wakes up, the hospital setting feels more and more like the true reality — until Victor urges him to disconnect from it. This is clearly how the Town manipulates vulnerable minds, the same way it once did with Boyd’s wife. I’m concerned Henry might take a desperate step to disconnect, which could mean attempting suicide. I just hope he doesn’t end up hurting anyone else in the process.

On the other side of town, Jade seems to have figured out a way to get the bones. He’s hatched a plan that involves uprooting the bottle tree, as he’s convinced the hidden chamber is located beneath it. When he explains his idea to Boyd, Boyd snaps at him and immediately asks for a Plan B. Jade, who’s already tired from coming up with the plan, doesn’t appreciate Boyd’s dismissive reaction.  At the same time, Boyd has been struggling with episodes where he sees things that aren’t actually there. Already on edge and frustrated, he becomes even more irritated when Father Khatri appears again and tries to convince him to trust Jade.

Episode 8, titled “Heavy Is the Head,” delivered several genuinely intriguing and tension-filled moments that stood out in the episode. One scene that really caught me off guard was when Boyd was making his way out of the woods after his heated argument with Jade. Out of nowhere, the sharp crack of a gunshot suddenly rang through the trees, and it genuinely startled me.  Then there was Henry. Watching him wander aimlessly through the open fields, muttering to himself while desperately searching for some way to disconnect from everything, had me sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time. The way the scene was shot and paced made it feel like something terrible was about to happen at any second, and I was fully convinced that the town had finally claimed its next victim. At the end, the appearance of the Man in the Yellow Suit made everything feel even more ominous and frightening.

With only two episodes left, the series has finally hit a decent pace. Every episode continues to deliver a few solid revelations while still planting new mysteries. Fatima has started developing strange marks on her belly, which feel like they could be part of a new, more sinister plan from the monsters.  I’m especially hoping the final episodes will give us more clarity on what Julie is up to. Her time-traveling (or story-walking) ability has been one of the most interesting discoveries so far. The possibility that she can alter the past — or may have already changed things — is really exciting, and I’m looking forward to seeing her explore that power even more.

Final Score - [8/10]
