After the standout mid-season episode, a couple of weeks' break, Jade and Boyd return in the sixth episode, arguing as the effects of the mushrooms finally start to wear off. Still riding the high from whatever he experienced, Jade reveals that he’s found a way out of town. According to him, the escape route runs straight through the underground tunnels where the monsters live. He explains that deep beneath those tunnels lie the bones of the dead children — and that somehow, those remains are the key to finally escaping this nightmare.
Jade is completely convinced and speaks with total certainty, but Boyd is having none of it. Boyd immediately shuts the idea down. He refuses even to consider leading anyone into those tunnels, warning that it would be a death sentence. Boyd bluntly tells Jade that everything he saw was just a hallucination brought on by the mushrooms and refuses to entertain the possibility that any of it was real. Unwilling to let it go, Jade keeps pushing. Determined to prove he’s not crazy, he takes Boyd down to the basement of Colony House — the exact place where, during his mushroom-induced vision, he encountered the mysterious door that led him to the children’s bones. Acosta is already there when they arrive, watching the tense exchange. At first, the door Jade described doesn’t appear to exist at all, leaving Boyd even more skeptical as Jade tries to explain what he saw.
Meanwhile, Donna and her group return from their food run, bringing back Roger’s body after surviving a deadly night. Donna updates Boyd on everything that happened, explaining how the giant dolls suddenly came to life and brutally killed Roger. She tells him that Tabitha eventually remembered how to stop them and which weapon to use. Tabitha then reveals the chilling origin of the dolls. She explains that they were her own childhood creations — toys she used to play with when they were much smaller size. According to her, a man who was deeply afraid of the dolls threw them into the lake. After the man died, the dolls grew to an enormous size and became terrifyingly alive. Kenny quietly observes that this seems to be the town’s cruel pattern: whenever someone dies here, their personal nightmare is brought to life.
However, the biggest highlight of the episode was Donna suffering a heart attack. After enduring a long and exhausting journey deep into the forest followed by a horrifying night, she was already physically and emotionally drained. Boyd, still processing everything that had happened, looks visibly shaken and wonders aloud how many more nightmarish events they’ll have to face before it all becomes too much. Donna seems to share the same heavy realization. The weight of it all finally catches up to her, and tension builds until she suddenly collapses to the floor. Chaos erupts as Boyd and the others in Colony House rush to her side, desperately trying to help. Moments later, Kristi and Mari arrive with medical equipment and immediately take charge, working frantically to stabilize her. The scene is tense and emotional as everyone watches helplessly. In the end, Donna survives, but not before giving Boyd a serious scare. In the midst of the chaos, he hallucinates Father Khatri, who appears and points his attention toward Jade’s discovery, leaving Boyd with a new sense of energy.
Episode 6, titled "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter," starts on a slower note following last week’s break, but it still feels like the story is steadily moving toward something bigger. While it may not be the strongest episode of the season, the ending delivers a solid payoff. After a long conversation with Father Khatri, Boyd grabs a large hammer and heads down to the basement to search for the hidden door that could finally offer them a way out of town. Together with Jade, Boyd eventually discovers the secret door that had been concealed behind the walls the entire time. Though they manage to reveal it, the discovery doesn’t bring answers — it only creates a brand new mystery.
