TV Shows Reviews

Debuting as a blend of supernatural elements and courtroom intrigue, Phantom Lawyer centers on Shin Yi-rang, a lawyer facing a profound shift in his career. After facing rejection from countless law firms, Shin Yi-rang launches his own firm by leasing a space that formerly belonged to a late shaman. Before long, strange occurrences unfold: he discovers he's gained the power to see spirits, leaving him utterly bewildered. At first overwhelmed and confused by these events, he quickly realizes he's taken on his inaugural case, a medical malpractice suit where his clients are a deceased spirit and his mourning, living widow. With the key figure already gone, can he secure a victory and deliver justice? And if this marks his first foray, will his future caseload consist entirely of restless souls demanding resolution?

I liked the concept that the makers of Phantom Lawyer got for us. For a change, it was unique. To see a lawyer fighting his way out in order to get cases and ending with ghostly cases was a concept that I had never seen before. As of now, just the first episode is out, but even then, Phantom Lawyer has managed to leave a mark on our minds. The execution is fantastic as well. The makers have developed the plot line very meticulously by showing us the overall journey of Shin Yi-rang, which includes his struggles alongside his first ever case, and again the struggles he faces while developing the case to be fought in the courtroom. All these elements make the entire show worth watching. I cannot praise the writer enough for coming up with such a unique concept. So full marks to the writer for that.

Other than that, the acting by Phantom Lawyer is top-notch. Yoo Yeon-seok as Shin Yi-rang shines throughout the first episode, and I am sure we will get more from him in due course. He, as the lead, carries the show well on his shoulders and shows us why he is fit to become the lead. Even the rest of the cast is amazing, and I am sure other cast members that we will get to see in the upcoming episodes will add to the watch.

Apart from the character development, even the pacing aids the overall development of the plot. You won’t be experiencing any boredom while watching the show, and that is also one of the best parts of Phantom Lawyer. It so happens that people find legal drama to be boring. But not this one. The makers saved us with another good show to watch. So all in all, I would highly recommend watching this show. It is fun, gripping, and intriguing, and if you are a lover of legal drama, Phantom Lawyer is just the right watch for you.
