The plot of Between Father and Son starts as something that you would want to see more and more of until you don’t. The storyline revolves around Barbara, a successful lawyer who becomes involved in a dangerous spiral of emotional and moral situations, from which getting out becomes a challenge. Her attraction towards her fiancé’s son creates a foundation of something more unsettling than anyone saw coming. This creates a foundation for conflict, guilt, desire, trauma, and a family that is on the verge of becoming broken. And it goes without saying that a plot like this would be filled with melodrama and sensational twists and turns.

The issue with Between Father and Son is how predictable it has become as you proceed with the entire plot. There is not much of an emotional outburst and drama that follows. After a while, all scenes feel the same when you watch them. In fact, it is this repetition that makes you want to get away from watching the show.

The plot leans heavily on familiarity. There is no uniqueness as such. Forbidden relationships are explored well. But the question is: have we not seen such plots before? The answer: Yes, we have. Thus, after one point, in between all the emotional melodrama, you will be able to predict the plot. There are hardly any surprise elements that make Between Father and Son even more boring.

There is no character development on the part of Barbara, either. It is indeed a poorly written character that offers nothing. At one point, you will find yourself questioning what she has been up to. I do understand the makers' attempt to make us guess the plot, but on a serious note, this guessing is becoming annoying. She is the main character without any main character energy. It is so frustrating to watch her make all the wrong decisions.

The only good thing about Between Father and Son is how the makers have given micro-episodes to watch. That makes the entire plot of the forbidden love bearable to watch. Other than that, as such, there is nothing. By following this micro episode strategy, the makers have also ensured that the pacing remains even. So all this helps you to watch Barbara and her stupid life. However, none of this saves the plot from the way it has been created. Things feel the same, and even though the episodes get over real quick, you still end up feeling frustrated because of what you have watched.

Pamela Almanza as Barbara does a fine job in bringing the character to life, which has no scope for improvement or development in the entire runtime. Erick Elías portrays Álvaro and manages to deliver a good performance. Graco Sendel’s Ike is good, even though it had a lot of scope for development, much of which is left underutilized. That is one big issue with all the characters; none of them have been well-written in the way you would expect. So if you are okay watching the melodrama of a forbidden relationship, Between Father and Son is your type. Otherwise, just skip it.
