Set in Riyadh, Crazy, Rich, Incredibly Broke follows the AIThahabi family, a wealthy-looking household whose social standing is highly dependent on appearances. The issue is that their fortune is not nearly as secure and stable as they made everyone to believe in it. The family decides to continue with the illusion, and this is what forms the core of Crazy, Rich, Incredibly Broke.

What makes the premise worth a watch is the fact that the makers didn’t make it all about the wealth. The AIThahabis have built an identity around being seen as successful, influential, and financially comfortable. This means that fortune threatens much more than their bank accounts. Every social gathering becomes another opportunity to maintain an illusion, and every attempt to appear wealthy creates another problem that has to be solved. And mind you, with a plot like this, comedy of errors is guaranteed. We have a family trying to fake wealth and has to lie about the same. One lie after another just to cover the previous lie. The only issue is that the more convincing the family tries to be, the more complicated their “act” becomes.

However, not everything is smooth in Crazy, Rich, Incredibly Broke. At the same time, there is no doubt in the fact that the plot is entertaining. However, the very same plot is highly predictable and offers nothing new as a viewing experience. Previously, we have also seen many plots with a similar type of content in various formats and languages. These rich people gone poor look good only sometimes, not always. Hence, midway, when you figure out what the plot is all about, you won’t find it interesting enough to hold on to it. And somewhere in between, every joke cracks, every situation that the family lands themselves in no longer makes you excited to watch and see what happens next.

Yes, for the international audience, this gives us a good insight into the lifestyle in Riyadh and the cultural aspects that we very often don’t get to see. This is one part I loved the most about Crazy, Rich, Incredibly Broke. We don’t get to see the societal portrayals of rich Saudi families. The makers and the producers have provided us with a great insight into this angle. We get to see how the AlThahabis plan their meet-ups with only the super-rich people. That cultural setting has been well explored and well created.

Other than that, the pacing is good. A great pacing always supports the comic timing of the cast. Though the plot is predictable, one area where you won’t get bored is the speed at which the plot moves. And who doesn’t love a fast-paced narrative? Coming to the cast, each and every member of the cast has made the movie worth a watch. They look and feel wholesome in their roles, and the comedy doesn’t feel forced even one bit. This ensures that, as viewers, we have a good time watching. So, to conclude, while Crazy, Rich, Incredibly Broke isn’t a groundbreaking plot to watch, the other elements of the show sure ensure that we have fun and laughter while watching it.
