‘Instadocs: The Prediction Games’ (2026) Netflix Review - The New Economy of Uncertainty

Another day, another documentary has arrived on Netflix. This time around, the plot explores the ever-expanding world of prediction markets-a space where people place financial bets on anything and everything. Some examples include elections, sporting events, celebrity news, as well as global affairs. This is where the main question comes into play: where does forecasting end and gambling, in the name of “important news,” start?

Prediction markets allow viewers to buy and sell contracts based on the likelihood of events in the future. And just like every coin has two sides, this phenomenon also has its own share of critics and supporters. Critics say that doing all this encourages speculation and creates incentives that manipulate real-life outcomes of what should have actually been the result. Conversely, supporters argue that these platforms produce accurate forecasts through collective intelligence. Through this, the documentary gives us both sides without actually taking a stance.

Interviews with executives from major prediction platforms and regulators give us a greater insight into what exactly goes on. The makers have ensured that they don’t treat the topic as just another topic on the internet. Rather, they have dug deep inside to present actual work. There is a growing financial ecosystem that can actually reshape how society works and thinks, and that aspect, too, has been well presented in Instadocs: The Prediction Games.

There is also another examination that takes place in the storyline: how some bettors allegedly harassed journalists, attempted to influence public narratives, and exploited digital platforms to get better outcomes that affected betting markets.  This now shifts the narrative beyond simple gambling and into a complex border of ethics. 
Instadocs: The Prediction Games is designed in a way that a full, comprehensive review is given to us viewers of what exactly is happening around. However, since the plot is still evolving, what appears to be comprehensive isn’t exactly that. Rather, it is safe to say that we just got an intro to what has happened so far. One might end up wanting some additional context for what is happening, the legal consequences, and some other unexplored aspects such as the financial and technological side of prediction markets. That is something which is highly missing in Instadocs: The Prediction Games.

The pacing is fast. Nowhere do the makers ever slow down. This is one of the key traits of Netflix documentaries, which is why I totally love them. A past plot ensures that there is enough to keep looking forward to while also maintaining the suspense of what can happen. The editing done is also attractive, making Instadocs: The Prediction Games a visually appealing show. But again, the topic is heavy. So some viewers might not enjoy it as much as the makers expected. If you are someone who likes watching shows that involve these kinds of issues, then yes, Instadocs: The Prediction Games is what you should be watching. Otherwise, you won't be able to appreciate what is being offered to you.
