Want to see the start-up world in Thailand? Look no further beyond this series. Mad Unicorn is the directorial debut of Nottapon Boonprakob and tells the story of Komsan Saelee, an entrepreneur from Northern Thailand who undergoes various hardships to build the country’s first unicorn in the delivery business.

So through this series, we see the struggles and successes that follow Komsan Saelee. Komsan is born into a middle-class Thai-Chinese family. Although there are financial limitations in his life, that doesn’t stop him from dreaming of a successful business empire. We see how he conceives the idea and why he gets into the delivery business specifically when there are so many other options available. While studying at Lampang Rajabhat University, Komsan didn’t just want a degree for the sake of it, instead, his passion was entrepreneurship.  This led him to open a small shop at his college campus which he ran as a student. Thus began the journey of a successful businessman.  Post-graduation, he joined a logistics company and gained first-hand experience in the industry, which only sharpened his skills. He was smart enough to understand the shortcomings in the industry and converted it into an opportunity.  Soon enough, he realized that working under someone was not his thing. And thus came the idea of a start-up that changed not only his but also the future of Thailand. Today, this idea has transformed into Flash Express- the first logistics start-up in the country to achieve unicorn status.

What is good about this docuseries is that it covers the journey of Flash Express and Komsan Saelee in great detail. Apart from the success, we are shown the dip phase of Komsan too. The struggles and rejections make his journey even more compelling to watch.

When it comes to pacing, the series is fast-paced. There is not even a minute where you get bored or feel that the plot is being dragged unnecessarily. With a solid direction and plot, this series is a must-watch for individuals interested in business or those who enjoy shows like Shark Tank. Director Nottapon Boonprakob and producers Jira Maligool and Vanridee Pongsittisak deliver us with a creative narrative that isn’t dramatic and doesn’t deviate from the real life of the man himself. This storytelling creates a balance between authenticity and cinematic crafting of narration, thus giving us a plot worth remembering. Even if you aren’t a Thai national, this show offers a wealth of insights and knowledge to help you navigate the business landscape. From the life of Komsan Saelee, we learn how resilience and hard work can help us achieve the best in life.  So what are you waiting for? Go grab some popcorn and watch this informative series.
