Magik Rompak is a film full of ambition, but it is nothing more than a copy of other plots. So without wasting much time, here is what happens: the movie revolves around Hadi, a once greatly celebrated magician who was also called “The Great Hadini”. However, as time changes, he loses his popularity and is no longer able to attract audiences. Due to his loss of livelihood, he is now under a massive debt as well. In order to reclaim what he lost, he assembles a team of professional thieves and names them “Night Spark”. They aim to pull off a daring theft of a necklace called  Heart of Kesuma. Now this isn’t any ordinary necklace; it belongs to a corrupt tycoon, Tan Sri Hamdam. And of course, it goes without saying that when you try to pull off heists like these, it won’t go easily. Some consequences follow because no one is going to hand over the necklace easily. This is where the magic trick comes into play. Through a series of illusions and a magic show, an elaborate scheme was set up. The question is: will they succeed?

For those who have read up till now, you might feel familiar with the plot. And yes, you are right to feel so. In the past, we have seen so many stories in both Hollywood and Bollywood and other industries that have made a movie on a similar theme: a grand theft that involves a corrupt person as well. So I feel that it is high time such scripts should be retired because seriously, how many times will you watch this again and again?

Having said that, there are some plus points to the film. For example, visually, the film is a great watch. The magic tricks shown are clean and polished. That is one aspect that will keep you hooked. The magic performances are worth watching and are the main attraction of the movie.

Now, getting back to the lack, the movie has some serious pacing issues. It is so slow that you will be forced to skip the scenes. The first half manages to keep you hooked to the however predictable plot; however, the latter half is the one where serious issues start creeping in. The second half spoils all the grip the first half created, and that becomes a bummer.

Even character development is greatly flawed. For example, Hadi could have been great. But it fails greatly. He starts as ambitious, but somewhere in the heist, he loses his spark.  Additionally, the rest of the cast’s plot is also boring. So much so that you won’t feel like catching up with what their back story is and what prompted them to join the heist. The villain, Tan Sri Hamdan’s character, is also very predictable. I had some expectations of that character. But sadly, I don’t get much from that either. So all in all, this plot turned out to be heavily borrowed from other Hollywood-produced stories. You get nothing except frustration and regret for choosing this movie to watch.

Final Score- [4/10]
