Netflix ‘Graveyard’ Season 3 Review - A Dark Puzzle That Keeps You Guessing

Graveyard has returned for season 3, and it is back with the same level of intensity that it had in the previous two seasons. It picks up where it had left off earlier. A disturbing new case forces Önem and her colleagues to reunite; however, with the way events are turning out, the investigation is becoming increasingly personal for her. The main crux of the plot is the mystery boxes being sent to women, which eventually leads the team to a very disturbing truth. All while this is happening, Önem finds herself confronting threats that affect not only her personal life but also her professional world.

Without a doubt, Graveyard Season 3’s biggest strength is Birce Akalay. As Önem, she gives the character an intensity and seriousness that is just up to the point. There is no case of over- or underacting, which will make you question your decision to watch. Her expressions and acting are on point, so you eagerly wait to watch the show due to her. Alongside her, the rest of the cast, consisting of Olgun Toker, Şehsuvar Aktaş, Hakan Meriçliler, and Sezgin Uzunbekiroğlu, help maintain the flow of the season, which is very much required to make the plot successful.

Apart from all this, the season is well written. There are twists and turns in almost every episode, which creates the look of a puzzle that you are eager to solve along with the investigative team. The plot is so gripping that in no time you will find your hook to it. However, even with all this, Graveyard Season 3 is not without its flaws that are hard to ignore.

The storytelling is, in a way, slow-burning. There is more of an investigation than drama and action. That can sometimes make the pacing sluggish. Yes, I do understand that the requirement of the plot is a slow pace. But that gets a bit too much when you wish for the plot to move as fast as possible. In those cases, the show becomes a bit annoying.

In season 3, we also see the show’s willingness to address femicide and violence against women. However, we see that all this takes place without making the show a result of cheap sensationalism. We have seen so many plots in the past that don’t turn out well due to this very reason. Dealing with such topics is sensitive, and I am glad the makers have mindfully done that.

However, Graveyard Season 3 has handled this aspect of narration and story development so well that one cannot help but appreciate the result. All in all, if you are someone who is a fan of thrillers and crime, you can start with Graveyard season 1 and eventually make your way to season 3. The show is full of twists and turns that will keep you engaged right from start to end. The pacing might test your patience, but when the plot is good, one doesn’t mind that.
