My Family has returned for a second season, starting from where it left off last time. Before we move further, let us take a quick flashback of what happened. Season One revolved around Fausto, a terminally ill father who tried to spend his last months preparing his family and children for life after his death. Season 2 picks up from this plot and asks a much harder question: how does life shape up when the grieving period is over?

A year since Fausto's death, the family is facing struggles when it comes to honoring the promise they made to him. They have miserably failed to keep Erocle and Libero together. In this season, we see how the relationship dynamics have shifted, unresolved emotions remain, and much of the family is still not able to move forward after the death of Fausto.  A new arch is created with the arrival of Gaetano, Fausto's father, which propels the family to face feelings that they had been avoiding for long.

There are many ways in which my family continues to represent the struggles of an ordinary family. The makers have managed to portray a hard-hitting plot with tons of uncomfortable questions that many viewers can relate to. I honestly loved how they developed the plot post the death of Fausto. But the showstopper continues to remain the character of Gaetano played by Sergio Castellitto. His character levels up the overall plot by the emotional complexity he brings to the family as well as the show at large. Also, if you think that the show is all about sorrow, then you are wrong. There is an equal amount of humor, which makes the overall plot a fun watch for everyone. It makes the environment lighter, and the comedic timing of the actors is also pretty good.

However, the only issue with Season 2 of My Family is that not all characters are developed. Only the central characters are the ones who show some sign of development in their arc. Other than that, the other characters, which indeed have scope for development, hardly get the limelight or any sort of improvement. They are just there for the sake of it. This was the only issue that you will see in My Family season2. However, it isn't something many people will notice and can be easily ignored.

What I also loved was how the makers never tried to stretch the show. In six episodes, the entire plot wraps up, which helps to maintain intrigue right from start to end. It could be a reason why the other characters aren't very developed, but as mentioned before, it can be ignored. I always appreciate the plots that aren't dragged on for long, which is why My Family Season 2 is a great watch for many.

The exploration of grief mixed with family issues is what makes the show one of the best and the quickest watches you will see this week. So you know you are going to get some really good performance with a plot that gives a mature theme in a lighthearted manner.

Final Score- [7/10]
