Of late, Turkish dramas have started catching eyes, and “Old Money” has joined the bandwagon. The plot revolves around Osman and Nihal. Osman is a self-made tycoon who has seen everything in life- from being a nobody to someone who has amassed great wealth. On the other hand, we have Nihal, an heiress to a shipping dynasty. Slowly and steadily, Osman’s empire starts threatening Nihal. Destiny does its role, and these two’s path collides both personally and politically. What follows is a power game where each is running fast and hard to ensure that power doesn’t slip away from their hands. Not to mention, romance too has a space in this plot. With love for each other, the world isn’t easy on them. Misunderstanding and lots of issues creep in. What will follow for these two? Do they have a story of their own, or will they lose in the power struggle?
This classic case of enemies-to-lovers is not at all predictable, like many other tales that we have seen before. There are lots of twists and turns in the plot, which will blow your mind. What goes in favor of this show is the layers the characters have. Osman hasn’t had it easy. He has had his own share of ordeals when it came to building a life he dreamt of. On the other hand, while Nihal does seem to be privileged because of the “old money” she has, she is more than just that. She knows how to protect what’s hers. She isn’t a dumb rich girl. She is sound and smart. Without a doubt, these two are contrasting personalities, and the makers have shown us that pretty well. And since there is a lot of riches involved in this show, we do get to see a lot of luxury throughout.
However, one thing that I quite didn’t like was that in certain places it was a bit difficult to understand what exactly the makers were trying to tell. For example, in the opening scenes of the show, I had a hard time trying to understand what was happening. This one issue was something that I faced in many places throughout the eight episodes of the show. It feels as if those scenes are going directionless in their own free will. The writers should try to tell us what exactly is happening; otherwise, as viewers, we can get lost in figuring out what is happening. Another issue that I faced was the uneven pacing. In many places, the pacing was very slow. Certain scenes go on and on and seem to be endless. I don’t know why that happened because, of course, the show has pretty good pacing at many places.
The acting by the cast is good. They give us just the right amount of emotions as we need. That’s a big win since the plot is good too. So, viewers, overall, this isn’t your classic enemy-lover story. It has elements that can catch your attention pretty soon. Ignoring the few minuses, you can definitely watch the show.
Final Score- [7/10]
