“The Wrecking Crew” revolves around the lives of two estranged half-brothers who are brought together by fate. James Hale is a grounded older brother who was once a NAVY Seal and has a stable family life.  On the other hand, we have Jonny (the younger brother), a wild drink addicted cop who has had a history of past conflicts in both his personal and professional life. Their childhood was filled with trauma, and thus, they have been estranged for the last two decades. However, these two collide with their father’s hit-and-run case, which results in his death in Honolulu. This incident has a life-changing impact on the brothers.  Jonny suspects that this death wasn’t an accident and that there is a greater conspiracy involved in it. And thus he gets back with his brother in order to investigate the happenings of the events. This also means that Jonny leaves behind his self-destructive habits in order to understand what truly occurred. Soon together, they realize that this is more than a death- the incident is connected with real-estate corruption, political power, and organized crime in the various parts of Hawaii. Now, they have become the center of the target, and those behind it want them to be dead. This also means that we get to see lots of typical action-based moves throughout, which might thrill the action lovers.

While the movie is good, I found the plot to be very predictable. This is the kind of story we have seen before. And since the execution isn’t that up to the point, one cannot help but notice these things which have not been covered properly by the makers. Other than that, the humor used, the action sequences, everything feels old and boring. The only thing new is the brother duo. Even at one point, the dialogue feels very repetitive. I was hoping for something fresh, but sadly, we don’t get it much here in this plot. Such stories, I don’t know why, also tend to have a very slow pace. The things are going on and on, especially action sequences, and it gets dull to watch. At one moment, I did question my decision to watch the movie. You might think that the brotherhood will be explored well, but that is the last thing the makers even thought about. So yes, that could have been a sub-plot, but that is a miss on the part of the makers. The relationship the brothers shared is very to the point, which is to find out who and why their father was killed. That’s it.

Coming to acting, yes, that is a saving grace. Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista as the leads are worth a watch on this sinking ship. Even though there is less humor, what it is, they give us good light moments in a plot that is supposed to be serious and full of fight and rescue sequences. So dear readers, until you are a fan of these actors, only watch it then. Otherwise, you will be wasting your precious time on a movie like this.

Final Score- [4/10]
