If you have watched Worst Roommate Ever, then you know how unsettling that was. And to top it off, we now have Worst Neighbor Ever, which also does a similar job. The plot, as the name suggests, is about people living just across the fence of four real-life stories of neighbor disputes that turned into cases of intimidation, violence, and murder. The stories are chilling and compelling at the same time, as some of them feel real enough when it comes to possibilities.

In the span of 4 episodes, we see cases that involve harassment, feuds that turned deadly, insurance fraud, and many other forms of violence. With the help of interviews from victims, relatives, investigators, and police officers, some stories feel almost bizarre to be taking place, yet one has to believe in the fact that these are indeed real. Some of the bodycam footage, surveillance videos, emergency call recordings, as well as courtroom material, add the level of authenticity that will force us to understand what the victims at the time underwent.

The best episode I found was the first one, where the makers showed us years of abuse that escalated between the neighbors and ended in a tragedy. It was quite disturbing; however, I would say it was well executed all in all. The only issue I found in Worst Neighbor Ever was how they ended up sensationalizing things over time. The stories could have been presented in a more documentary type instead of making it big news. While it does manage to capture one's attention, over time, as and when the episodes come forward, none of them manage to create the buzz the way the first episode does. It is like the episodes are created in a formula: victims are introduced, the feud is mentioned to us, and arrests and convictions are made. This similar structure makes the whole thing quite a boring watch when you actually think of it.

There is a lack of examination of the broader issues. Also, very little exploration is done in order to show us the proper investigation. That makes Worst Neighbor Ever a show that doesn’t answer all the questions you wanted to ask. It can also leave some viewers frustrated over how the whole thing is dealt with.

One good thing is that, via the interviews, good coverage is given. Survivors and family members come forward to tell us about the grief and the trauma that followed them. This gives us a first-hand account of what happened straight from the horse’s mouth. It also makes you realize how difficult it must have been for them to have undergone such a horrible thing in life. Yet here they are, narrating to us the incident that shattered them very much.

The pacing is quick. That is quite helpful because a show like this going slow won’t really make sense and overall become boring to watch. Each episode aired is concise and remains engaging despite the drawbacks that are already there.  So, all in all, though Worst Neighbor Ever has some shortcomings, we cannot totally dismiss it. It is indeed worth at least one watch if you are someone who is into shows like these.

Final Score - [6/10]
