If you're feeling low today or you've lost your hopes of a better future then, this is my pick to get you back on track. In your 80’s when you'll be old and unable to walk properly, these ladies introduce us to the vast opportunities life has to offer. Even if the doors to your happiness are closed, just smash it down and pave your own way. Four old ladies in their eighties (okay, one is 75) have a tradition of watching football. How this started is a story in itself.
When one of them got diagnosed with cancer, the other three came to her home to cheer her up. They turned on the TV but as the remote wasn't working, it stayed stuck on the channel showing football. Slowly, they started to enjoy the game. Then, in 2017 all of them randomly decided to go to the Super Bowl, however, they didn't have the means to buy the tickets and make other reservations. Call it luck or call it fate, a contest was run where four lucky winners will get free tickets to the game. The ladies won it and packed their bags to enjoy this opportunity of a lifetime. They were excited to be able to see their favorite player Tom.
Bags are packed, tickets are done, and one of them is kidnapped from the old-age home facility. The scenes set the tone right and a rhythm is set in the movie which does wonders. The enthusiasm and energy shown by the cast is unbeatable making their performances a treat to watch. So many things happened that might've shifted their course of track, juggling between the mishaps and determination to make this right, the ladies do unthinkable things. All of them had their own charm and there wasn't a scene where I felt that a particular character hadn't been allotted their due time.
From impromptu dance performances to hijacking the game, just name it and they've done it all. One of them gambled when the tickets went missing. The surprise of the prize money being donated to a charity did a number on her yet, that too proved to be useful for them. The parts where Lou imagines Tom speaking to her were a great touch to the plot. Our generation didn't learn many things from their predecessors and that's how to be relentless in the pursuit of happiness. In my opinion, 80 for Brady on Netflix is an underrated watch and you should give it a shot. Lou, Betty, Trish, and Maura are four completely different individuals with a friendship that'll be remembered for a long time.
This exciting and humorous film has a lovely ending. I had my moments of doubts which soon got clarified after witnessing the last five minutes. Trish and her flirting skills played a key role along with Maura’s golden hand at gambling. Betty was more like a balanced character and it was her inexperience at flirting that made her a likable part. Lou, the one who made everything possible might be the center of the film however, she's the one who makes the circle a dynamic one.
Final Score – [7.5/10]
