‘Chief Detective 1958’ Series Review - A Korean Crime-Comedy Worth Watching

Lee Jee Hoon has always been my favorite. I have seen his dramas since Signal. After that, I have always enjoyed seeing him in the crime and action genres. After Taxi Driver was over, I was craving to see Je Hoon in an action and crime drama again. Now I am on Cloud Nine because Jee Hoon is back in another drama that has the same genre.

Chief Detective 1958 is a kind of drama for which I have been looking for a long time. It has everything I wanted to see, be it action, comedy, or period drama. The first episode was released on April 19, 2024. After watching the first episode, I am just unable to wait for the next episode.

The first episode starts with an old man coming to the police station to give some food to his grandson. Then the real story started by focusing on Park Young Han. It is set in the 1950s and 1960s when Young Han is considered one of the most talented detectives in his area. Young Han is very good at catching thieves and criminals in his hometown. After catching a series of cow-stealing thieves, he gets promoted to an upper level and transferred to another unit.

Park Young Han travels to Seoul and starts his new life as a detective at the Seoul Police Station. I really got excited watching all these because I could predict that the real story would start from this point. Young Han tried to catch a criminal, and he also caught him, but he had to let him go due to the connection the criminal had with a strong and powerful individual.

The real story started from this point, as Young Han witnessed unfairness and corruption in his own department, and he set his goal to put every criminal behind bars. But will Young Han be able to fulfill his goal? I am genuinely very excited for the next episodes, as I was very invested in the first episode, and on top of that, I know Lee Jee Hoon never disappoints with his work and acting skills. He always chooses the best scripts out there.

Moreover, it is a crime, thriller, action, period drama with a touch of comedy drama. This is surely very entertaining, and it will keep you hooked till the end. As only one episode has been released so far, I can't guarantee how the drama will end. But for now, it is going well, and the plot is slowly developing.

If you are someone who wants to watch a drama that is based on crime, suspense, thrillers, and action, then you should go for this one. You will enjoy watching the detectives form a team to catch criminals, and their funny ways to catch them will make you laugh hard.
