Netflix has yet again explored the Nordic territory through this dark drama, and it doesn’t disappoint much. As the title suggests, the show revolves around the discovery of a teenager who was murdered, shedding light on community violence that is hardly visible to the public except for such cases. The plot revolves around Silas, a teenage boy whose body was found on a farm. At first, people think of it as a tragedy that may have occurred as an accident, until further investigations reveal the gory truth behind the murder. Many secrets are uncovered, and things start to become serious. Then comes into the picture investigator Dani, a smart individual who also happens to share some personal bond with the murdered boy. She is supported by trainee Malik. Danis' subsequent return to the town of Bjäre digs up her old past, and that is where it is revealed to us that she also has an estranged son. Now the question is: will she succeed in solving the case? Will her ties with her son improve?
The thing I loved the most was how the characters and their past were brought to us. For example, there is so much to Dani’s role. She is a mother while also sharing some ties with the dead boy. There are multiple layers to her character, which have been perfectly brought out by Krista Kosonen. She is steady in her portrayal of Dani and never goes off track.
Even Malik’s presence, given to us by Mohammed Nour Oklah, gives very strong support to Dani. He is well needed, and his character is well written, even if it is that of a supportive cast. He brings the contrast to Dani’s character, and we get to see two opposites. This ensures that there is no monotony in the roles one bit.
Even Peter Gantman, as Elis, who appears as an antagonist initially, ends up showing what true loyalty and devotion are. The rest of the plot is shaped by the silence and hidden secrets of a community. In this case, I will consider that as a character too because it is more than just a background premise that shapes the plot. It gives us the true picture and doesn’t shy away from calling a spade a spade. Such a background is important to establish the story, as it supports what the makers are trying to convey to us.
But if you are someone who is sensitive to content like this, you should watch it at your own risk. The plot can turn out to be very brutal sometimes, and that can cause sensitive viewers to feel a bit uncomfortable. But for those of you who like investigation drama, this show is for you. Alongside the main plot, Dani’s life will also catch hold of your interest, and that will give you more reasons to watch the entire show in one go. The pacing is even, giving time to scenes that need our attention and fastening up where it is necessary. So all in all, this Nordic drama will be a great watch for you.
Final Score- [8/10]
