Directed by Mel Damski, My Favorite Wedding follows a predictable plot that fails to offer anything new. The plot revolves around Tess Harper, a doctor who somehow manages to solve all the problems of others but her own. When she gets to attend the wedding of her best friend, she is paired with the best man, Michael, a charming divorce lawyer. Being polar opposites in personality, they have the classic case of “opposite attracts” and the rest, as they say, is history.

First of all, many things are just so annoyingly known beforehand that it makes you lose any interest that you can have in watching My Favorite Wedding. For example, Tess Harper’s role is shown to be a very workaholic person who needs some time to loosen up and enjoy her life. Most of the classic romcoms follow this: one of their characters is shown to be someone who is obsessed with their work life. Then we have Michael, the person who gives her the space to loosen up as much as they can. There is a soft, mild conflict that takes place between the two, which leads them to get attracted to each other and eventually fall in love. So clearly, I need not even tell you what happens in the end because there is clearly no suspense left as such. It is indeed the same plot that gets repeated again and again, and I really wanted the makers to give us something new and different, but they didn’t make the effort.

Yes, one thing is clear: the makers have relied heavily on the simplicity of the plot. They have not tried to make things overcomplicated, nor have they tried to take any risk and divert from the plot. All of that remains just the same for us.

But that created an issue as much of the plot also remains underdeveloped, more than being predictable. It becomes clear that Tess has some internal battles that she is trying hard to fight. Meanwhile, Michael remains a bad boyfriend who, slowly and steadily as the plot advances, manages to learn how to treat a woman. So what exactly are we getting here? Nothing worth watching at all.

The pacing is slow. This becomes a huge bummer even as we try to navigate the plot, which gets boring after a while. Even after forwarding things, you will feel as if nothing changed in the plot. Things are as slow as they can get, and that is where everything else starts to add on to the overall frustration that you are experiencing while watching the show.

So, until and unless you have nothing nice, serious to watch, My Favorite Wedding might not be the movie you would want to see. It gives you nothing and ends up taking your precious time that you could have used on watching something else and better. Even in romcoms, there are better ones that you can try and watch.

Final Score- [3/10]
