This movie does have an intriguing premise. Here we see that after a heart transplant, Juan Manuel experiences a big shift in his personality. Once known to be an arrogant man, he has now softened and wishes to explore the life of Pedro, his donor. This obviously means that Pedro is no longer alive. While exploring and getting to know Pedro’s life better, his widow Valeria and Juan develop an unexpected bond. This soon turns into a romantic relationship between the two who are bound by Pedro’s heart. We see how Valeria finds comfort in Juan knowing that her dead husband’s heart is still beating and is near her.
Now there are chances that you might have seen this plot before- the organ donated contains memories that bind two people or two families together. These people fall in love or stay connected with each other for the rest of their lives. And well that makes sense however this sense was slightly lacking in this particular movie. Juan’s transformation feels wasted and out of place. There could have been moments where the makers could have explored his personality in great detail and what exactly brought a shift in his behavior. But they fail to do so, which makes the movie lopsided. It was like once the operation was done, he was a changed man. As if some fairy godmother cast a spell on him in the OT.
Now another thing is that this movie falters in the connection part. The acting and the romance between the cast feel very forced. There is no natural connection here. And that’s sad because the movie deals with romance as a major theme. Since these two don’t have a connection with each other, they fail to make us believe that they have an ongoing romance.
While the movie has an okayish pacing, it feels frustrating because the plot isn’t as intriguing as we thought. Thus it makes us feel that even the movie is slow and boring. The direction and script could have been strong enough to make the movie highly emotional. For instance, a deeper understanding of the relationship between Pedro and his wife could have been explored even more. But that aspect has not been covered in great detail. Apart from this, even Juan’s character had a scope that was not explored.
Overall, this film tries its level best to make it appear rich in emotions and romance; however, the audience is not convinced of the same. We definitely want more because the plot definitely had a scope that was left unexplored. Midway you might even question yourself as to why you decided to watch this because of the age-old gimmicks that this film displays. With many other new releases for the weekend, you can pass this film for something better.
Final Score- [5/10]
