I will admit, at first, I didn’t really understand what was happening, but even in that buildup, I knew that something interesting was going to happen. At the core of the plot is Sophie O’Neil, a former public relations manager who relocates to Maple Brook in East Texas with her husband and son to start anew. What this “all over again” is, is not revealed to us initially. She attends a party with her husband, where she encounters the host of the party, Margo Banks, aka Mrs Banks, and is instantly drawn towards her. She is also the leader of a glamorous clique consisting of fellow wives called the “hunting wives”. Mrs Banks also invites Sophie to join the group, which she willingly joins. However, as she joins the groups, she understands that something is off. She had this kind of feeling when she met them at the party. To add to all this, there has also been a case of kidnapping in the town. What will happen when she comes to know more about the town? Does this also mean that the group and Mrs Banks have got something to do with it?
This is a very intriguing show. The way it has been executed is phenomenal. Right from the start, the makers have given us an eerie feeling that something is wrong in the town, and Mrs Banks knows about it. So while not a lot has been revealed at the start, the build-up is enough for us to keep watching it further.
Talking about the characters, even their buildup is fine. For example, we are shown in the beginning that something with Sophie is wrong. It is as if she is trying to forget her past life and start a new one in Maple Brooks. But the question is, what is it? And why is she so mysteriously drawn towards Mrs Banks? Other than that, even the other characters, such as Mrs Banks, add a further layer of mystery to the overall show. She, too, senses something in Sophie.
The plot moves at a fast pace while also leaving scope for more to be added. Not once do you feel bored. As I mentioned before, it is the overall execution that creates a sense of eeriness. For those who enjoy watching thrillers, 'The Hunting Wives' is a good choice. It is gripping and will keep you on the edge of your seat most of the time. You will want more and more even after the credits roll. I was hooked on watching it, and I am sure many of you will be too. If you are someone who likes the themes of betrayal, scandals, and similar concepts, this is what you want to watch to break the monotony of the week that is about to start.
Final Score- [8/10]
