TV Shows Reviews

The previous episode saw Cassie crossing the line for her OnlyFans, and fans were quite shocked to see Sydney Sweeney's effort in those scenes. The third episode (The Ballad of Paladin) also has some explicit scenes, but this time Hunter Schafer's Jules is the highlight in a scene styled like a psychosexual thriller, where Ellis wraps nude Jules head-to-toe in clear plastic cling wrap. Jules is at art school when her roommate Vivian suggests she try sugar dating to cover rent. Jules starts with low-commitment gigs: a 48-year-old lawyer who gets off on nylons, a $200M Hollywood producer, and others. Jules eventually drops out of school and goes exclusive with Ellis (Sam Trammell), a married plastic surgeon.

In this explicit scene, Jules stands completely naked in the center of Ellis’s bedroom. She’s fully bare: small, perky breasts with pale pink nipples, smooth, shaved pubic area, long legs slightly parted, arms hanging loose at her sides. Her skin is flushed, breathing already a little faster. Ellis (fully clothed) picks up the giant roll of clear industrial cling wrap and starts at her ankles. He pulls it tight, wrapping layer after layer upward. Her arms get pinned tight to her sides next. The wrap goes higher, encasing her neck, then her head. He leaves only a small oval opening around her mouth and nose so she can breathe. By the time he’s done, Jules is completely mummified in multiple tight layers of shiny transparent plastic. The plastic is so tight it’s glossy and reflective, distorting her body slightly while making every curve and detail hyper-visible. Once she’s fully mummified in the transparent plastic “cocoon,” Ellis kisses her slowly and deeply through the small opening at her mouth. He pulls back just enough to look at her trapped expression and whispers, “I just might keep you forever.”

Meanwhile, at the Silver Slipper strip club, Rue has leveled up in the criminal underworld. She’s now an “arms dealer” for Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), selling illegal firearms (she even shaves serial numbers off AR-15s). Rosalía makes a cameo performing in a bedazzled neck brace. A pig (part of Alamo’s feud with Laurie) escapes, pees everywhere, and Alamo shoots it dead, splattering blood on a dancer. He then vows to destroy what Laurie loves most—her parrot, Paladin. Rue gets invited to Nate and Cassie’s wedding and decides to bring Jules as her plus-one. She shows up at Jules’ place with cash, jokingly calls herself Jules’ new “sugar daddy,” and tells her to “dress sexy.” Jules shows up in a barely-there icy-blue gown that draws stares from everyone, including Nate’s mom, Marsha.

The main event is Nate and Cassie’s over-the-top wedding at a lavish venue. Cassie gets her $50,000 floral dream—pink-and-orange arches, a giant “N+C” ice sculpture, flower girls, the works—but it’s funded by debt and deception. Pre-ceremony chaos: Nate is puking in the shower from nerves. Cassie panics backstage. Her mom, Suze, walks her down the aisle while monologuing about her own failed marriage and “the brutality of the man I never knew before,” leaving Cassie in tears.

Cal (Eric Dane) has an awkward bar chat with Jules: He apologizes for recording her in Season 2, reveals Nate destroyed the tape and took a plea deal (he’s now on the sex-offender registry), and laments being labeled a pedophile. Nate later shares a cigarette with Jules outside and thanks her for coming.

Cassie confronts Nate about money lies; she pops a champagne cork into his forehead in a fit of rage. They plaster on smiles for guests but argue in the stretch Hummer limo on the way home. Nate promises he’ll fix everything and be a better man someday. Cassie calls it “the worst” day of her life. Nate carries Cassie over the threshold of their new home. The lights flip on—loan shark Naz and his goon are waiting. They beat Nate savagely, shove Cassie to the floor (she cracks her face and starts bleeding), and cut off Nate’s pinky toe as punishment. Naz tells Cassie some people inherit wealth; others inherit debt. Cassie hysterically screams, “This is so unfair!” and “What is happening right now?!” while Nate is dragged and left bleeding. The episode closes on the pretty and blood-soaked wedding flowers.

Meanwhile, Rue and Bishop head to Laurie’s place under the guise of a pill pickup. While Laurie tries to lure Rue back, Bishop slips a tablet (implied fentanyl) into Paladin the parrot’s water dish. They leave quickly. Later, the bird drinks, seizes, and dies while Laurie dozes. At the end of the episode, Rue is on the phone with Fez when she gets pulled over by the DEA.
