This amazing blend of humor, crime, and style has caught my attention right from the first episode, and I am sure it will catch yours, too. So Confidence Queen follows the life of Yun Yi-rang, played by Park Min-young. Yun is a brilliant woman with a lofty IQ who was once an heiress and now is busy reinventing herself as a con artist. Post losing all her family wealth, she partners up with James and Gu-hoo, who together form the “Team Confidence Queen”. This so-called “team” is nothing but scammers who delve into elaborate scamming schemes using disguise and great planning. But there is a catch. They don’t con normal ordinary people. You see, dear reader, they have some moral obligation. Confused as to how scammers can have a moral obligation? Worry not and read on. These people scam the corrupt elite class of society, for example, greedy businessmen, criminals, etc. Right from the start of episode one, we see Yun playing with cards and catching everyone’s interest. But it also weirdly gives us the view that something is more than what the eyes see. She conducts the game of gambling. Soon, we see how the trio turns the tables and cons a wealthy and greedy lady out of her money. Revealing too much here would spoil the fun, which is why you must watch the episode to understand how cleverly and sharply these people played the game.
Because of the wit and the humor, this show is going to be a great watch. It keeps you guessing till the end, and when you see them turn the tables, you realize the mastery of the plan. It is an art to con people, and through this show, we get to see the real artists. Coming to the cast, each actor is a great deal to watch on screen. For example, Park Min-young as Yun Yi-rang is a delight. She is quirky, funny, and gorgeous to see. I particularly loved her in this show. Her comic timing is spot on, which makes her a great delight to watch. Very few actresses can carry a funny role, and she is one of them. Joo Jong-hyuk and Park Hee-soon to complement her and the script. They are super good with their roles and comic timings. It's actually fun to see them plot and find their client for the next heist.
It had been a long time since I watched a fun K-drama, and I am happy that Confidence Queen came up. The plot is intriguing, but what’s more to it is how well they have executed it. That execution deal is more important. There are also a lot of morals in this show. When we talk about the so-called corrupt elite, the series shows us how the loan sharks bully people, harming them and their families. Thus, as a revenge, these people do what’s needed. They bring them back and show them their place. This aspect is what makes the show a great watch. Therefore, kdrama lovers, gather up for a great ride. You will for sure love this. Currently, only the first episode is available, but I can assure you that with each subsequent episode, you will enjoy this show even more. It's funny when needed and gets serious again as demanded. So you get to see a perfectly balanced show.
Final Score- [7/10]
