‘Mikael: Pemburu Dua Alam’ (2026) Netflix Movie Review - A Balance of Folklore and Family Drama

The supernatural genre has always succeeded between the seen and the unseen. But if that same recipe is what you expect from Mikael: Pemburu Dua Alam, then you are hugely mistaken. The plot revolves around Mikael, a young man who discovers that his destiny lies between two worlds: the human world and a hidden, supernatural dimension inhabited by very dangerous entities. Soon enough, he starts to learn more about his extraordinary abilities. This also leads Mikael to confront truths about his family’s past and his sister’s disappearance while also accepting responsibilities that come with being a guardian against evil. In addition to all this, there are mysterious murders that are taking place in his village. How is all this related? With all this going on, can he stop the evil while also balancing his life in between all this?

Since there are a lot of plots that are coming around revolving around mythology and supernatural forces, Mikael: Pemburu Dua Alam is a show that gives us nothing new. However, it is in the execution that things differ from what we have seen before. Ancient prophecies, guardian angels, and mystical creatures are all introduced to us slowly and steadily as and when the plot progresses. Nothing feels as if something has been bombarded at us. There are no typical jump scares that will take the living breath out of you. In fact, the twists and the turns are pretty subtle yet interesting to watch.

There are action sequences which, too, have been well choreographed and directed. There are plenty of confrontations between Mikael and the creatures from the other realm, which are captured amazingly. One can easily differentiate between CGI spectacle and physical combat that makes the scene a stellar watch. Visually, the overall picturisation looks great. The cinematography frequently uses shadows and contrast lighting, which helps us differentiate between the two worlds that come across. The character development of Mikael is also worth a watch. We see how much he changes ever since he discovers his powers. By midway itself, you will realise that it’s a well-written character.

However, even with all the good things, Mikael: Pemburu Dua Alam is not without its weaknesses. For example, as already mentioned, the plot gives us nothing to watch. This genre is becoming so common that every other week we get to see a movie or a TV show on this theme. While there is no harm in that, the major issue comes with the fact that the plots are mirroring each other way too much. Thus, we have no suspense left, nothing exciting to look forward to. Even if there are fewer jump scares or plot twists that are different, most of these lead to the same conclusion most of the time. That can go heavily against any maker who has been trying to make a plot in this genre.

The pacing is brisk, thankfully. So that keeps you engaged while watching the movie. Hence, all in all, if you want to watch something in the supernatural genre, Mikael: Pemburu Dua Alam is a good one-time watch.
