Four years later, Blood Sisters is back with season 2 to prove to us that some secrets can never stay fully buried. What initially started as a thriller about friendship and survival has now turned into a full-blown crime drama. For those of us who don’t remember what happened in the first season, here is a little flashback: Sara and Kemi manage to escape the nightmare that followed Kola Ademola’s death. In season 2, we see that instead of starting over again, the two women find themselves trapped by the same turn of events they and we thought they had left behind. They are still haunted by their past. With the way their present has become, they now have to cover up the scandals and fight for their innocence.

There are many good things about this season 2. For example, the strengths continue to remain in the central duo. However, the makers don’t restrict themselves to that solely. This time round, the plot expands beyond them. A lot of highlights have been given to the Ademola family. This gives us a much layered plot with twists and turns that keep viewers engaged right from the start to the end.

When it comes to acting, Keth Henshaw delivers a commanding performance as Uduak Ademola. Her character has a certain arc of revenge and grief, which she portrays pretty well. Even with all this, her character manages to create tension due to her pursuit of Sarah and Kemi. This makes her role as a villain subtle yet dangerous. Even the role of Timeyin emerges well this time around. In season 1, we hardly see any development. But in season 2, she comes across as someone who ends up being one of the most intriguing players of all time. There has been a big transformation that explores the deeper aspects of ambition, privilege, and family loyalty. With all this, even the supporting cast does its job pretty well.

But even with all that, there are some issues with the plot. With so many casts developing together, it gets a bit confusing to watch. For us, as viewers, keeping track of these many plots unfolding becomes confusing. In all honesty, the plot is getting overcrowded with an attempt to develop all side characters along with the main ones in one go. Also, there have been too many twists and turns. At one point, we all might feel that some twists and turns would become fewer. Yet that never happens. The pacing also becomes erratic. Some scenes drag a lot, while some hardly do. This disrupts our overall viewing experience. I was hoping for better pacing in season 2 given how the plot was taking its shape, but that doesn’t materialize in the way we expect.

So while Blood Sisters Season 2 might not work well in many ways, it has still managed to outdo itself in some other aspects, such as plot development and character development. And it is for these very reasons that we should be watching it.
