Fortune teller Kazuko Hosoki has always been in the news for all the controversial reasons, and Straight To Hell tells us more about her. Covering decades of scandal and ambition, we get to witness the rise and fall of Kazuko Hosoki, which forms a bigger picture of the narrative that includes success and controversies. As someone who has seen post-war poverty, Kazuko Hosoki always had the hunger to rise and experience fame. That aspect of life was something that she did achieve, given how, over the years, she managed to shape herself as a celebrity. She goes on to reinvent herself as a Ginza hostess before she achieved some bigger fame via television.  Whether she truly possessed the abilities to understand human feelings or did she just survive on their weakness is something you will understand only after you have watched Straight to Hell.

Many things make this show worth watching. First and foremost, there has to be a way they have brought Kazuko Hosoki’s life to us, the audience. Her life, for sure, makes a good story to watch. Of course, drawing inspiration from her is a personal choice, but the makers have done a great job in telling us about her life. The attention to detail has been done very meticulously. For example, her early childhood, the post-war era, and her life from then on have all been captured pretty well in the show. Her changing identity, which has been the central figure of the entire show, has been beautifully portrayed with much elegance.

Another thing that goes highly in favor of Straight to Hell is its pacing. The overall speed of the show has been deliberate. There is no rushing with the scenes; at the same time, there is no intentional slowing of the same. Things run at their own speed, with the makers giving us enough time to sit and understand what exactly is happening, all this while in the life of Kazuko Hosoki. Then comes into the picture Minori Uozumi, a struggling writer wishing to write about something that gives her recognition. She is tasked with ghost-writing Kazuko Hosoki’s life, and it is through her that we viewers get to see what life she lives.

The casting is amazing. Erika Toda as Kazuko Hosoki brings lots of life to Straight to Hell. That is what makes the whole worth watching amongst the other factors. She has unfolded the layers of Kazuko Hosoki so well that one won't know when the person ends, and the character starts. She has gone on to display such meticulous emotions as the scene demanded. Sairi Ito as Minori Uozumi becomes the eyes of the audience, and of course, it goes without saying that even her acting is commendable. In addition to her acting, even the supporting cast does a great job in bringing Straight to Hell to life.

Once the show ends, you will be forced to think so much about Kazuko Hosoki. To some, she might blow their minds; to others, she continues to remain ruthless. That is when you know that the makers have done amazingly well in bringing her roles to life.

So all in all, Straight to Hell is a great watch for anyone looking for something real and thrilling to watch. The show displays a varied range of phases that Kazuko Hosoki’s life had, and for once, you enjoy watching what she did that got her into so many controversies.
