If you are a fan of movies like 2012 and Interstellar, then you will certainly like “The Great Flood”. As the name suggests, the movie revolves around An-na, an AI developer who is trapped with her son Ja-in in a high-rise apartment building. Flood hits the town, and now they have to put their survival skills to the test to stay alive as water levels rise and engulf their apartments. In order to do so, they climb to the highest point of the building with other survivors. An-na is no ordinary person. She is an important key for a research project that can also prove to be one last hope for humanity’s survival. In order to rescue her, Hee-jo, a member of the human resource security team, is sent to her. But as things advance further, the real motives of keeping An-na safe become clearer and clearer and raise many other questions, even as the city gets flooded. For An-na, the survival of her child is her utmost priority here. Will she succeed in doing so?

So this is quite an ambitious plot line that the makers gave us. This goes both in their favor and against them. In their favor, because in the plot, they didn’t just keep it all about the survival of a mother and her child. Had they done that, the entire plot would have become too basic. Instead, they added a twist by making An-na an important piece in a research project for humanity. This makes the plot far more interesting because now we know why people are out there trying to save her. However, this also goes against the makers as it makes the plot slightly more complicated. This is because many aspects are left unexplained, which makes us wonder why and what happened in An-na’s plot. Much of the film revolves around her for obvious reasons, but some side characters could have had a plot of their own, which could have broken the monotony of the film. The “making An-na part of a crucial project’s execution becomes too ambitious for the film to work positively. As a result, it is common for the audience to lose interest in the plot in between.

Other than that, the character development is good. We get to see An-na’s life in full, and her role is that which goes beyond being a mother. All in all, that makes it a good watch. Even the visuals used to show rising sea levels and a sense of panic created are intriguing to watch. So a big credit for making the film great also depends on those who worked on the graphics. But mainly, the film succeeds on the sense of urgency that it continues to create right from the start to the end. There is an air of palpation that tells us that something wrong and bad is about to happen, and we have to brace ourselves for the same.

So all in all, this is a one-time watch as there are many movies which are even better than this one. As I said, if you are a fan of this genre, there is no harm in giving it a try.

Final Score- [6/10]
