The fourth episode is a clear improvement over the previous one, but it still barely moves the story forward. What it does do well, though, is create a strong sense of anticipation. You walk away feeling like something big and genuinely exciting is finally building and about to break in the coming episodes… even if it’s still impossible to predict exactly when that payoff will actually arrive.

Season 4 Episode 4, titled "Of Myths and Monsters," begins with Boyd, Tabitha, Henry, Jade, and Donna gathered in the Sheriff station with the Yellow dress they found in the forest (Victor peed in his pants after seeing it). Henry recognized the dress and told everyone that he had seen it in the basement, and Miranda might have painted it. Boyd gets into a heated argument with all as he wants them to focus on the urgency of the situation. Boyd looks visibly shaken after hearing about the kid in the white dress, warning Tabitha that they’re running out of time.

Sophia has shifted to Sara's, who doesn't seem to be in her right mind. She is hearing voices, which makes her feel like her head is exploding. She is also doubting the reality - checking things twice or thrice or even more to confirm if they are actually real. Though apart from a few talks, we don't see any progress on Sophia's storyline. Sara feels like old Sara, but in more control; she seems to be obeying the orders coming from the voices like sipping water from a jug at the diner and spitting it back in.

I would make Julie the central focus of this episode. Her arc is the only thing that actually moves the show forward and keeps it from feeling stale. After retrieving those books from her old house, Julie and Randall start hunting for any clues that could explain what’s happening to her. Randall uncovers the story of Fred the Storywalker, and together they seem to discover a far more efficient way to storywalk.

It was already pretty obvious—though still a bit vague—that storywalking is basically time travel, even if none of the characters can control it yet. This episode almost confirms that Julie is the one who should be able to master it. She’s already helped Boyd and the others a few times with her ability, even though she wasn’t in control. In this episode, she travels back to the day the entire town was massacred, when Victor was the only survivor. She finds herself standing on a street covered in dead bodies and spots the Man in Yellow eating one of them, which completely shakes her. She tries to draw the symbol on her note, but drops the paper right there in the middle of the street. The Man in Yellow gives her a terrifying look as Randall yanks her out just in time. When she returns to the present, the paper in her pocket is still there—but it’s completely blank. It didn’t work the way she hoped, but I think she might be able to find that same note lying on the street in the present day… as long as a piece of paper could actually survive that long.

Meanwhile, in the colony house, Fatima is creating a Gollum to face her fears. She thinks Gollum will make her stronger and less afraid. Boyd and Kenny vaguely agree with her, letting her do and asking others not to disturb her. Donna and her group are on the way to food scouting deep in the forest along with Ethan and Tabitha. Ethan is still looking for the lake of tears as they reach the place where the vegetables grow. As they find a huge unidentified object in the nearby lake, the episode ends.

The episode has a lot of moments that make the show more interesting. I think the story is moving towards a time loop and reality-altering kind of situation. Boyd's ring gives a hint that reality is changing; someone is altering the time. The white dress kid has already warned her about running out of time. I think he meant running out of time to change the reality - maybe there is still some time left to save Jim, and if time runs out, Jim will be permanently dead.

Final Score - [7/10]
